An Introduction to Performing Arts (3rd-5th)

Young Voices is a wonderful introduction to the exciting world of performing! Students learn acting skills through improvisational exercises and games, receive the basic knowledge necessary to begin reading music, and practice primary musical theater dance steps in a fun and supportive setting. Young Voices has many performing opportunities including our Holiday Fest, Bridge Fest and very own musical, The Aristocats Kids! The Young Voices wear a uniform for select performances.

Rising stars

Performing Arts for Middle Schoolers (6th-8th)

The Rising Stars is an ensemble of audition-only students who receive top-level training in musical theater: incorporating voice, acting, and dance. Our Rising Stars learn to work as an ensemble and build important skills as performers including sight singing and aural skills, singing in parts, vocal projection, improvisation, scene work, observation, focus, emotional memory, body awareness on stage, and a repertoire of musical theater dance steps. Rising Stars has many performing opportunities with performances both at our main campus (including our Holiday Fest, Bridge Fest, select Christ Church services), as well as out in the community. The Rising Stars will perform Guys and Dolls Jr. at the end of the year. This group wears a uniform for select performances.

Performing Arts for High Schoolers (9th-12th)

The Stars of Young at Arts is our most advanced ensemble of audition-only students. Stars receive top-level training in musical theater, incorporating voice, acting, and dance. Stars are ready to work independently and are committed to trusting one another as an ensemble. As actors, Stars are expected to have a level of focus to play dramatic action honestly and believably. Rehearsal work includes exercises and improvisations exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physical and emotional awareness. In dance class, students learn technique in jazz as well as other various styles that make up the Broadway palette. This year, students will concentrate on dances using Latin rhythms and hip hop in preparation for the musical. Stars continue to work vocally on a solid vocal technique, sight singing, and choral music in multiple parts. The Stars have many performing opportunities and are the public face of Young at Arts with performances both at our home campus: the Holiday Festival, The Festival of Bridges, select Christ Church services, and the annual benefit along with many performances out in the community.  The Stars will perform In the Heights at the end of the year. This group wears a uniform for select performances.

Fall/Winter Session (Sept - Feb)

For the first 18 weeks of the YAA school year, the Stars are placed into arts tracks based on talent and interest. Students will get a chance to explore one discipline: acting, dance, or creative arts and will perform their pieces as part of the Festival of Bridges in February. Students will also continue to work as a vocal ensemble each week.
